Taste of real wood
Where does the typical barbecue taste come from? In Germany, many barbecue fans prefer charcoal to gas grills due to the results in taste. Charcoal consists of pure carbon to a large proportion.
When carbon is burnt, water and carbon dioxide are produced. None of them provide the grill stuff with taste. So this must come from something else. Finally, it is the evaporating and burning grill stuff remains, such as meat juice or grease – very problematic healthwise.
Experts like Stephen Raichlen, author of the Barbecue Bible, prefer real wood for the ultimative barbecue taste. It bestows an imcomparable note on the grill stuff. When barbecuing with wood, the taste comes from the fuel. Wood is thus the only source which gives the grill stuff its taste. This also happens when curing meat, for example.
Barbecuing over real wood is very laborious. First you have to let some pieces of wood burn down so as to grill over the blaze. Beech or oak are very suitable, but not just any type of wood.
It is much easier with Bob Grillson. He burns high quality hard wood (e. g. beech and oak) in form of practical pellets. Bob is clean and comfortable. The addition of expensive chipped wood for the flavour is in the past.
You will find more information in our Pellet Guide.
Temperature spectrum
Bob is able to reach almost any temperature needed for curing, barbecuing, grilling or even baking pizza.
You want to cook a roast at temperatures of around 100 °C for several hours? No problem – just adjust the turning knob to 0.2 bar and you will achieve similar results to an American smoker.
Roasting a chicken at 180 °C like in an oven? Medium grilling a steak at 320 °C perfectly? No challenges at all for Bob. On the contrary: he will even provide the perfect barbecue taste to go with it.
Bob can easily replace a real Italian stone pizza oven. At temperatures around 400 °C and with a pizza stone, Bob will give you pizzas that will let you forget about your Italian restaurant around the corner.
Indirect / direct grilling surface
For direct grilling, the grill stuff lies directly above the heat source, e. g. glowing coal briquets or a gas burner.
So the grill stuff is cooked at great heat. This is recommended for steaks, for example. Yet the disadvantage is mostly that dripping grease ignites at the heat source – the so-called grease fire – producing many unhealthy elements.
Indirect grilling is charcterized by laying the grill stuff not directly above the heat source but beside it.
For this, you can switch off one of possibly several gas burners or push the charcoal to one side. You decide for indirect grilling when you cook larger pieces, for example a whole chicken, at lower temperatures for a longer period.
What if you want to grill a steak or another short-grilling product healthily without constantly having to watch out for grease fire?
This only works with a totally new method, indirect/direct grilling. Some very high quality gas grills are able to do this - and Bob Grillson.
Due to his diffusor principle, Bob has the advantage that around 2/3 of his grilling surface are not above the heat source. But still this grilling surface can be heated at 100 % performance. Quite easy, steaks and other short-grilling products are cooked crispy-medium. Without grease fire and with the taste of barbecuing over real wood!
Mobility
Most grills of Bob’s size and weight category are more or less stationary. That means, once they have been built up, they can only be moved a few meters.
Bob, on the other hand, is equipped with robust golf caddy wheels, so you can move him further through your garden with a little muscle power. You just have to assist him at hard edges or steps. So Bob will follow you anywhere you want in your garden.
Manufacturing
Bob is not consumption - Bob is an investment! Bob is no throw-away product – Bob will accompany you for a long time!
